Learning SET Mission

At present, Learning SET is a consortium of small, medium and large scale voluntary sector organisations based in the unitary authorities of Southend and Thurrock and the county of Essex. The members provide, or plan to provide, learning opportunities for their staff, partners and service users - individually and in partnership.

Learning SET emerged from the ESTIC (Essex, Southend and Thurrock Infrastructure Consortium, www.estic.org.uk ) Workforce Development Network supported through the Change Up programme.

Model of Excellence

Learning SET aims to be a model of excellence in:

  • Supporting individual and organisational development in the voluntary and community sector (VCS), including but not limited to registered charities, social enterprise organisations, community interest companies and co-operatives;
  • widening access to learning for all our communities.

Learning SET aims to achieve this by:

  1. Developing, promoting and delivering learning and development services for people and organisations in the VCS;
  2. developing, promoting and delivering innovative and non-traditional approaches to learning to employers, communities and individuals;
  3. developing, promoting and delivering learning for hard to reach individuals and communities;
  4. developing the capacity of, and providing supportive frameworks for partners / member organisations to enable them to contribute to the mission.
 Learning SET values are:
  1. Putting our service users at the centre of all we do;
  2. promoting equality of opportunity and diversity and redessing disadvantages;
  3. collaborating and working in partnership with others;
  4. adding value by our efforts;
  5. being innovative, flexible and responsive;
  6. aiming at excellence in all we do;
  7. modelling best practice within our consortium and in our dealings with others.
